Happening in the World: Due to the uncertainty caused by trade tariffs, many countries are forecasting a decrease in economic growth. The International Monetary Fund predicts a “significant slowdown” for many advanced economies across the globe—including the UK, Germany, France, and Italy—following a sudden increase in tariffs. Happening in the US: As Tesla’s profits and sales continue to dip, Elon Musk has decided to scale back his involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to focus more of his time on Tesla. Some are blaming his administrative role for the company’s recent decline. Starting in May, he will allegedly be cutting back his DOGE efforts to one or two days a week in order to prioritize his work at Tesla. (CNN)
Happening in NYC: After facing resistance to her proposed “masked harassment” bill, Governor Kathy Hochul has withdrawn her proposal. Rather than demanding a restriction in face masks entirely, she is now calling for enhanced penalties for individuals who wear face masks in public while committing assault or harassment. According to a Siena College poll, 64% of voters support making it a crime to use a face mask to conceal one’s identity while threatening someone. (Gothamist)
