LASA: Taste of the Philippines

  • Sunday, April 13, 6 to 10 pm, Event Oval, The Diana Center.
  • Join Liga Filipina for their annual gala! The event will feature a dinner, performances, and speakers, including Miss New York 2024 Marizza Delgado. Come celebrate indigenous Filipino folk traditions and try Filipino food from vendors across NYC. Tickets are $25 at the door.

Wildseed Book Club

  • Thursday, April 17, 6 to 8 pm, 2nd Floor Conference Room, Intercultural Resource Center.
  • Come read with Wildseed, a social justice book club hosted by Students of Color at Columbia (SoC@Columbia). This week the club is reading Gendry-Kim’s graphic novel Grass, which tells the story of a Korean woman enduring Japanese colonial rule. The event will involve reading and discussing the story together. Copies of the book will be provided, and no pre-reading is necessary!

“New Beginnings” Spring Blood Drive

  • Monday, April 14, 11 am to 5 pm, Lobby, The Forum at Columbia University.
  • Tap into your altruistic side by giving blood at Columbia’s annual spring blood drive. The drive is in collaboration with New York Blood Center. If you’re able to donate, it’s a great thing to do!

Community Connections: A Pre-Celebration of APIDA Heritage Month

  • Wednesday, April 16, 12 to 2 pm, Schiff Room, Earl Hall.
  • Start celebrating APIDA Heritage Month early with University Life. This event will foster meaningful conversation about the APIDA community, as well as provide snacks representing Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi cultures.

Fun & Games on the Lawn

  • Thursday, April 17, 12 to 2pm, South Lawn East.
  • University Life is hosting an afternoon of lawn games, snacks, music, and crafts. Activities include board games, DIY flower crowns, a beanbag toss, and bubbles. Treats include soft pretzels, popcorn, mini hot dogs, and ice cream (!!!).

Grandmothers at the Helm: The Unique Leadership of Older Women in Times of Change

  • Thursday, April 17, 12 to 1 pm, Zoom.
  • As part of the seminar series “Assets of Aging: A Series on the Capabilities that Accrue with Longer Lives,” Lynsey Farrell, PhD, will be speaking about the invaluable role of older women in sustaining healthy communities and guiding younger generations. The seminar will draw on evidence from global initiatives and research to challenge negative narratives about aging.
