Radioactive materials are pretty funny.

Name, School, Major, Hometown: Boluwatife Oshuntolu, SEAS, Mechanical Engineering, Orange, New Jersey

Claim to fame: I was somewhat Twitter famous (before it went downhill). Red Bull student ambassador. Columbia Pop’s premier metalhead. Former class president.

Where are you going? I’ll be attending Cranfield University in England this fall to study Advanced Motorsport Engineering!

What are three things you learned at Columbia and would like to share with the Class of
2029?

  1. Make every second count. Genuinely. Every single one.
  2. Build your own community, or the wrong one will be built for you. Learn to cultivate a
    space that works FOR YOU!
  3. Take lots of photos and videos: even if the people in them change, the memories will
    remain.

“Back in my day…” We used to carry around gold doubloons to be able to take out our food in dining halls. And we only had three dining halls. You kids have no clue how spoiled you are these days.

Favorite Columbia lore? That one dude who stole uranium from Pupin and got expelled. Stuff involving radioactive materials is generally pretty funny (with obvious caveats).

What was your favorite class at Columbia? Gotta be a toss-up between Fluid Mechanics and Rock. Fluids genuinely changed my entire career trajectory, and getting to take a class on the history of rock and roll is objectively awesome, especially as a guitarist!

Would you rather give up oral sex or cheese? There are alternatives to cheese.

Whom would you like to thank? Naturally my parents since they had the collab of the century (me) and otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to do any of the really cool things life has had to offer me, as well as my siblings for making it so easy and fun to be an older brother. A lot of people make the mistake of not becoming friends with their siblings until much later in life, and I’m glad to say that I avoided that. I’m so blessed to have the family that I do. Endless love to the Multicultural Affairs Committee, you guys have been the best possible friends anyone could ever dream of, and I can’t wait to start vlogging to you from across the pond. To everyone who I’ve ever played music with in Columbia Pops, thank you for making me want to be not just a better guitarist, but a better musician as a whole. My love for music has been forever cemented because of all of you. To my Machine Design/Senior Design group, as well as the entire Mechanical Engineering department (with special shoutouts to Professors Kasza and Yesilevskiy), for making me realize that I do in fact love engineering and the people who do it. You all have made undergrad that much more fun. Lastly, to every single person I’ve met during my time here; you’ve altered my life in innumerable ways, and I objectively would not be the person I am today without each and every one of you.

One thing to do before graduating? A Riverside Park sunset with my friends would be pretty cool.

Any regrets? Absolutely none. See y’all later. #COYG
