New Staff Writer Gabi Alvarez nearly flatlines after discovering John Jay Dining Hall’s ice cream has vanished, only to be replaced by a new ice cream station!
After finishing a study session, I decided it was time to relax and nourish my body with something sweet! I made my way to John Jay, conveniently located adjacent to Butler, and strolled to where the Ice Cream bar is usually located. To my surprise, it was gone. Poof. Vanished.
No signs, warning—no nothing! Not even the courtesy of a little “Out of Order” flyer to give me hope that it’d return sometime soon. Sulking, I then realized students were walking around with colorful scoops of ice cream and pastries.
After further investigation, I realized that the sweets were coming from an entire Ice Cream Station! No cooler, but: The. Cutest. Flipping. Ice Cream. Station.
The station is opened from 9 am to 9 pm offering Ice Cream ranging from NY Cheesecake, Vanilla, Toasted Coconut, Chocolate, Creamy Mango (selection often rotates, no official Ice Cream menu), a multitude of pastries (cookies, brownies, cakes), and assorted toppings (like a bajillion options, trust me).
Overwhelmed, I panicked and chose Sundae of the Day, Affogato!
A toasty hot cappuccino cake topped with warm espresso, vanilla, mascarpone cream (SO GOOD), and coffee streusel. Despite my dislike for vanilla or anything not chocolate related, this Sundae was incredible! The warm cappuccino cake melts on your tongue, combined with harmonious vanilla touch. The mixing of coffee, vanilla and cream coating my tastebuds was exactly what I needed after constant review and studying!
If you prefer to build-your-own sundae, do not worry! Create your own mixing of flavors with the variety of toppings and Ice Cream flavors.
Toppings include: Gummy bears, rainbow and chocolate sprinkles, hot chocolate and caramel fudge, whipped cream, sweet cherries, m&m’s, cinnamon, and many more!
Overall, Gabi approves of this ice cream station. Need something sweet? Come to John Jay’s Ice Cream! (Allergen Alert—some pastries and desserts may contain nuts, seeds, and/or common allergens.)
