Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, visits China for a military parade. Editor’s warning: mentions of death.
Happening in the World: Kim Jong Un, leader of North Korea, arrived in Beijing today to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and 24 other world leaders and to attend a military parade remembering the 80th anniversary of World War II’s end. This is the first time Kim has attended an event with multiple leaders from different countries since assuming power. While Russia, North Korea, and China have not confirmed a meeting between their leaders, it is suspected that they may display three-way unity against the United States during the military parade. Happening in the US: After snatching a hat away from a child at the U.S. Open, Piotr Szczerek, CEO of the Polish paving company Drogbruk, has publicly apologized for his hurtful actions, stating that he believed the player was handing him the hat for his sons. Kamil Majchrzak, the tennis player who gave away his hat, found the fan through social media and gave him a new hat and some merch. This situation has brought to light how difficult it is for players to sign merchandise or give out their gear, because when fans crowd the players multiple people try to grab the same item, causing awkward and unfair situations.
