Happening in NYC: After the Long Island Railroad union leaders requested an emergency board be convened to reach a deal with the Metropolitan Transportation Agency, the planned LIRR worker strike for the end of this week has been postponed to May. Workers threatened to walk off their jobs starting Thursday after talks with the MTA to raise their salaries fell apart due to pushback against the demands of five unions. This negotiating process with the emergency board delays a strike for at least eight months, allowing about 300,000 riders to continue to commute every day without issue. (Gothamist)
