Happening near Campus: A building partially collapsed in the South Bronx on Wednesday morning after an explosion at a NYCHA housing complex forced residents to evacuate. The blast, believed to have originated in a chimney vent shaft, caused part of a tower at the Mitchel Houses on Alexander Avenue and East 137th Street to give way. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Firefighters and city officials responded swiftly, shutting off gas to the building as they investigated a possible gas leak. A temporary shelter has been set up nearby as authorities assess the structural damage and continue their investigation. (Gothamist)
