Happening off-Campus: The Trump administration has cancelled the visas of at least six people for public comments made about the murder of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk. In a post on X, the US Department of State wrote: “The United States has no obligation to host foreigners who wish death on Americans,” sharing screenshots of posts it claimed celebrated Kirk’s September killing. The announcement came the same day President Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The move is part of a broader immigration crackdown that includes expanded social media vetting and the cancellation of over 6,000 international student visas this year. BBC
Happening near Campus: The first debate of New York City’s general election for mayor takes place tonight at Rockefeller Center. Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, former Governor Andrew Cuomo, and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa are set to take the stage. Hosted by NBC 4 New York and Telemundo in partnership with POLITICO, the debate begins at 7 p.m. from the 30 Rock studios in Manhattan. Watch it here.
Happening on Campus: Acclaimed writer and director Celine Song (SoA ’14), known for her films Past Lives and Materialists, returns to the Columbia School of the Arts for a conversation about her creative process with longtime mentor and Theatre Professor Anne Bogart. The event is part of Dean Sarah Cole’s Speak Now series, which highlights artists whose work reaches a broad public and reflects a spirit of adventurous creativity. Advance registration is now closed, but tickets may still be available at the door. An in-person standby line will form prior to the event. Admission is free.
