Happening near-campus: A new warning symbol for food and drink high in sugar have begun to appear on menus in restaurants across New York City. According to the Sweet Truth Act of 2023, starting this month, any restaurant across the five boroughs with a minimum of 15 locations must start putting a black triangle with a tiny white spoon inside it next to any menu option with more than 50 grams of added sugar. New York City is the first in the country to make warnings about added sugars mandatory in restaurants. Professor Pasquale Rummo of the NYU Grossman School of Medicine is conducting a study to analyze whether this new warning will impact the sugar-consuming habits of New Yorkers. (Gothamist)
