Happening off-campus: A Parisian psychologist named Catherine Hervais dedicates her days to rescuing pigeons suffering from “stringfoot,” a condition caused by threads and human hair tangling around their limbs and cutting off blood circulation. The condition is caused by urban debris. Each day, Hervais lures injured birds near the Pompidou Centre with seeds and carefully removes the harmful materials using scissors and tweezers. While she acknowledges she can’t solve the entire problem, she remains committed to helping the birds in her neighborhood one pigeon at a time.  (Reuters)

Happening near campus: The Studio Museum in Harlem, founded in 1968 as a hub for Black culture, is reopening this weekend after closing in 2018 to build a new custom facility just blocks from its original loft location. The new building provides space to showcase rotating works from resident artists and the museum’s 9,000-piece permanent collection spanning over a century of Black art. The inaugural exhibition features Tom Lloyd, a light artist whose work was also featured in the museum’s very first solo show in the 1960s. To celebrate the reopening, the museum is hosting a Community Day on Saturday, November 15, with DJ sets, workshops, and activities welcoming the surrounding communities. (Gothamist)

Happening on-campus: This Tuesday, November 18 from 11 am to 2 pm, Columbia University Public Safety and the NYPD are hosting Operation ID. This free crime prevention program engraves electronics and bikes with a unique ID number registered with both the NYPD and Columbia Public Safety, an effort to reduce property crime. Public safety services and personal safety tips will also be available during the event, and those who cannot attend can schedule an appointment and find more information here.

Rewatching: I just made it to season 9  of Grey’s Anatomy, and ugh that plane episode is so heart-wrenching I can’t. I almost skipped it because I couldn’t bear watching Lexie die and then Mark and then Arizona’s leg and Cristina’s crash-out and Derek’s hand??? It’s all too much. I also hate that they all kind of leave, but don’t really leave, or in Cristina’s case, come back to Seattle Grace. However, we did get the iconic Meredith Grey, “…everyone is leaving and everyone is dying,” line, so there’s that at least. The Mark Sloan dedication episode is so sad, and it literally makes me cry every time. Why couldn’t they have let him and Lexie be happy?? Shonda Rhimes when I catch you…
