American Religion is… Healing

  • Wednesday, November 12th, 5:30 to 7 pm.
  • Burke Library, Union Theological Seminary. Registration recommended.
  • As part of their Shifting Paradigms of American Religion series, The Institute for Religion, Culture & Public Life will host this conversation about how religion influences public health approaches and perception. With Columbia’s Justine Ellis moderating, three professors from other universities will discuss their perspectives on this topic. Learn more.

Primo Levi’s Periodic Table at 50

  • Thursday, November 13th, 5 to 7 pm.
  • Italian Academy. Registration required.
  • The Italian Academy will host six scientists and writers to discuss Primo Levi’s highly acclaimed novel Periodic Table. Primo Levy was an incredibly accomplished scientist and author, as well as a Holocaust survivor. His book Periodic Table is a memoir structured based on the periodic table of elements. Join the Italian Academy this Thursday to celebrate Levi’s legacy and 50 years of Periodic Table. Learn more.

Music on the Brain: From Tension to Groove

  • Thursday, November 13th, 7 to 8 pm.
  • National Jazz Museum. Registration required.
  • This Thursday the Zuckerman Institute will host this hybrid jazz concert and discussion event at the National Jazz Museum. Performing at this event will be Kelly Green, a multi-talented jazz musician who recently released her fifth studio album. Joining her is Anna Zhukovskaya, a neuroscience postdoctoral researcher at the Zuckerman institute. After Green’s performance, the speakers will discuss the connection between music and the brain, and how the they work together to transform stress into creativity. Learn more.
