I asked some Columbia students what songs are getting them through finals and for a short explanation of why. It was very insightful!
- Feelin’ Myself – Mac Dre: “This song makes me feel inspired to do like anything. Especially the part where he says, “I treat my bitch like an ATM card.”
- Soccer Practice – Lizzy McAlpine: “This song makes me so sad that it pushes me to finish everything so I can take a break from how sad it is… kind of my strat.”
- Challengers Soundtrack: “For the competition vibes.”
- Studio Ghibli Movie Scores: “They help me romanticize studying!”
- Penny Lane – The Beatles & Silver Dagger – Joan Baez: “They both envigorate me with funky fun and fresh vibes in between long study sessions!”
- Victorious Soundtrack: “I don’t have a reason, they’re just really good..”
- Mythological Beauty – Big Thief: “I sing this with my two roommates and it’s really nice!”
- Anything from Glee: “Because there is nothing that will get you into a slightly homoerotic mood like the Glee cast.”
- It Is What It Is – Blood Orange: “There’s something about that song that makes me feel hopeless yet peaceful in such a chaotic and stressful time. It is what it is, unfortunately!”
- My Angel – Adrianne Lenker: “Very quiet, calm, and soothing.”
- Love Song – Sarah Bareilles: “It makes me feel like I can be independent and make important things happen in my life!”
