Happening Off-Campus: On March 22, four masked men scoured the Magnani Rocca Foundation in Italy. These men would run off with Les Poissons by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Still Life with Cherries by Paul Cézanne, and Odalisque on the Terrace by Henri Matisse. All of these priceless pieces of art were stolen within three minutes, only stopped by the alarm system of the building. The case was made public on Sunday, March 29, with €9m worth of paintings stolen. Les Poissons as a sole painting was worth €6m. The case is now being thoroughly examined by Italy’s Carabinieri and Cultural Heritage Protection Unit of Bologna. (BBC)

Happening On Campus: Today, March 30, from 4:10 pm to 5:25 pm, Dr. Daniel S. Hellwig will discuss AI in bioinformatics, specifically in relation to the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. In the lower level of the Milstein Center at Barnard College, Hellwig will discuss forensic DNA analysis and the continuously advancing field of Forensic Investigation Genetic Genealogy (FIGG). Hellwig has over 20 years of experience in FIGG and is accredited for the creation of the first laboratory for genome sequencing of forensic SNPs. For more information, click here
