Updates from spring break and the end of most winter sport seasons.

Highlights:

Both the men’s and women’s fencing teams came in second place nationally in the NCAA Championships; the women’s ended on Friday, March 20, and the men’s on Sunday, March 22. Samarth Kumbla (CC ‘27) won the individual championship in the men’s foil division.

Columbia’s women’s basketball team lost the Ivy Madness semifinal game to Harvard in overtime, 65-67. They did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship tournament (Women’s March Madness) but were instead invited to the  Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament (WBIT), a 32-team single-elimination tournament also run by the NCAA. 

In the first round Thursday, March 19 at 7:00 PM, they dominated St. John’s at home, winning 74-26. On Sunday, March 22, they defeated North Dakota State at Fargo,  86-57, with three 20-point performances from Mia Broom (CC ’28), (26), Perri Page (CC ’26) (23), and Riley Weiss (CC ’27) (21).  Columbia (22-8, 11-3 Ivy) will be facing Cal Berkeley (21-14, 9-9 ACC) in the quarterfinal round on Thursday at 10:00 PM ET.

Meanwhile, the wrestling team came in 17th in the NCAA Championship between Thursday, March 19, and Saturday, March 21.
