The first images of Earth from the NASA Artemis II mission have been released.
Happening Off Campus: Yesterday, NASA unveiled the first photos of Earth from the Artemis II mission. This past Wednesday, the Artemis II mission launched on a 10 day mission to orbit the moon.The mission included Victor Glover, the first Black astronaut to travel into deep space, Christina Koch, the first woman to journey around the moon, and Jeremy Hansen, the first Canadian astronaut to make the trip. So far, NASA has shared two photos of Earth, one showing the planet half lit by the sun and half obscured in darkness, the other showing the Earth bathed in darkness with a small crescent of light illuminating the lower limb. This mission is the first to send people around the moon since 1972. (New York Times)
Happening Near Campus:As childcare is becoming a growing affordability concern in New York, Mayor Mamdani is launching a program to roll out free care for 2,000 2-year-olds this fall. To help spread the word, Mayor Mamdani is partnering with rapper and Bronx native Cardi B and creating a jingle contest. New Yorkers will be asked to submit 15-30 second original jingles, and the winner will be the official theme for the new childcare program. “Child care is very important. Sometimes us women can’t really go forward because we don’t have nobody to help us take care of our kids.” Beginning June 2, 2026, parents in school districts 6,10, 18, 23, and 27, will be able to apply to the childcare program.
