If you’re worried about move-in as an international student, we have some quick tips and tricks to keep in mind!

Before you leave

  • Keep all important documents together: passport, visa, I-20/DS-2019 (if applicable), admission or employment letters, vaccination records, birth certificate, and digital backups stored securely.
  • Research your phone plan: decide whether to use international roaming, buy an eSIM before arrival, or get a local SIM card.

Packing

  • Don’t try to bring your entire life.
  • Bring items that are:
    • Difficult or expensive to replace
    • Sentimental
    • Needed immediately after arrival
  • Buy bulky household items (bedding, kitchenware, storage bins) after you arrive if possible.
  • Remember to bring some medicine that you find really useful! It takes time to find medicine that works for you in US.
  • You can absolutely buy stuff when you get to school! Only bring what you don’t want to buy when at school.

Tips: If you are buying something through amazon, make sure it arrives before 8.15 as school can directly send that to your dorm. Use the service!
