Sewage system excursions are on the rise in New York City.
Happening Off-Campus: In the town of Bekescaba, Hungary, a rooster named Sanyi fled a poultry market and made his home in a public square. He became beloved by the townspeople, receiving daily visitors and even his own Facebook group. He was a symbol of hope for a community struggling under the government of then-Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The short documentary Sanyi Kakas, created by Lotte Salomons, explores themes of connection and solidarity in a deeply divided society (NYT).
Happening Near Campus: Five people were spotted climbing out of a manhole on the Upper East Side early Friday morning, marking at least the seventh time since May that groups of people have been seen entering or exiting the city’s sewer system. NYPD spokesperson Brad Weekes said last month that people have entered sewers “to look for valuables and other scrap metal after a storm,” but investigation over this particular excursion is still ongoing (Gothamist).
Happening On Campus: The Research Program on Sustainability Policy and Management is hosting a discussion on Green Industrial Policy tonight from 6:30 to 9pm. The event will bring together academics from the United States, China, and Brazil to analyze the national contexts shaping the design and results of green industrial policy. Registration information can be found here.
