Balls! We lost again...

Our opponents say, “Balls, we lost!”

Believe it or not, sports happen even when you’re away on break. Stats star Max Rettig brings you this week’s results.

In one of the many Columbia vs. Yale matchups this past Halloween weekend, the Lions rallied late to tie the Bulldogs. Columbia scored a pair of goals in the final ten minutes of regulation play, bringing the score to a 3-3 tie. Jack Gagné, Andrew Tinari and Nicholas Pappacena each scored in the latter 45 minutes. Ron Zori helped out with two of those goals, notching a couple of assist. Yale got on the board first at 29 minutes with Connor Lachenbruch netting a loose ball off a corner kick. The Lions and ‘Dogs were otherwise statistically tied at the break; each team tallied 7 shots, 4 corner kicks, 1 save and 4 fouls.

Yale’s Henos Musie scored his first goal on a breakaway and found his second in the 72nd minute, scoring on a free kick. His first attempt was blocked, but the referees called CU on an early charge and gave Yale a second chance. Tinari kicked in his 4th goal of the season, bringing Columbia within one, and merely 3 minutes later first-year player Pappacena followed with the tying goal off of passes from Zori and Stamatis. Overtime came and went with Yale firing off a shot, but alas the score remained even. Columbia had its chance in the second overtime period, but the ball deflected off the pole, and so the Lions drew even with the Bulldogs.

Men’s Soccer takes to the pitch twice this week, both matches at home. Last night the Lions beat Sacred Heart (final non-Ivy contest) 2-1 off goals by David Najem and Andrew Tinari; Harvard comes to town on Saturday (Nov. 9). Head up to the soccer stadium for the 7 pm game and cheer on the team!
