That whistle’s about to fall out of his mouth

Remember how nice your bed felt? And how happy your pets/younger siblings/old toothbrush were to see you? Columbia Men’s Basketball doesn’t, because they were too busy making their dreams come true on the court. Bwog’s Seafaring Sports Specialist Max Rettig took the names while basketball kicked the butts.

On December 20, the fall semester ended. Shortly after, the basketball team started going on a tear. The Lions, who now have a winning streak of five games, began their Ivy League streak by defeating Cornell 71-61. Alex Rosenberg put up 20 points in the conference opener, earning him another fantastic game and a co-Ivy League Player of the Week nod. Rosenberg has scored 10+ points in 13 straight games, according to the CU Athletics game recap, and is ranked sixth in the conference with 13.9 points per game. Isaac Cohen is also having a notable season, making the weekly honor roll for his efforts.

The Lions went 5-1 over the break, including that win over Cornell. The Lions go on an extensive 5-game road trip, beginning with their contest at Cornell on Saturday and continuing through Yale, Brown, Princeton and Penn. They return home play against Harvard on February 14 in what is a highly anticipated Ivy League matchup. Barring a poor road trip by the Lions, the Valentine’s Day game should feature the 1st place (Harvard) and 2nd place (us) teams in the conference. Tip-off will be at 7 pm. We hear that it’ll make for the perfect date. Show your romantic interest the Lions some love.

• 9th-ranked women’s squash won their 5th straight game this past Sunday, defeating No. 15 Williams 9-0.
• 11th-ranked men’s squash defeated No. 18 Williams. While the team recently fell to Franklin and Marshall (no. 6), the Lions won matches against Wesleyan (No. 16) and Amherst (No. 22).
• Men’s and women’s swimming and diving took good care of Cornell, recently beating New York’s other Ivy League school 184.5-115.5 and 179-94, respectively. The women’s team remains unbeaten. Men’s S&D is 4-2 on the season and 2-2 in the Ivy League. Just keep swimming…
• Wrestling has been successful as of late. They are 5-3 on the season and have yet to begin Ivy League meets.
• In pro sports, the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos will face off in the Super Bowl, hosted right across the Hudson at MetLife Stadium. Damn it’s going to be cold.
