Happening in the World: Former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has died at the age of 95. Though lauded as a figurehead of the Zimbabwe African National Union, he ruled the country tyrannically from 1980 – the year he helped lead it to independence – to 2017, when he was finally forced out of power. Happening in the U.S.: Hurricane Dorian became a Category 1 storm early this morning, and is presently hitting parts of North Carolina. Nearly 300,000 residents and businesses are without power in the Carolinas as the Bahamas’ updated its official death toll to thirty people. (CBS News)

Happening in NYC: In a bid to help grade school students suffering with mental health issues seek treatment, State Senator Brad Hoylman of Manhattan introduced a bill in the New York Senate yesterday that would make mental health a “permitted absence” under state law. Should it pass, mental health issues would officially become a legitimate reason to miss school. The bill’s introduction follows similar actions either taken or considered by state governments in Oregon, Utah, and Illinois. (NY Daily News)

Music Pick: Personally, I’ve been listening to “In Your Eyes” by Fugue. Feels to me like a cross between Kansas’s “Dust In The Wind” and Empire of the Sun’s “Country”. The point is, I’m a sucker for this specific guitar style.
