In today’s news: early voting in New York City seems to take longer than becoming a member of the Supreme Court.
Happening in the World: NASA recently confirmed the presence of water molecules on the sunlit surface of the moon. According to the association’s press release, the water molecules are distributed such that they do not form puddles of liquid water or ice. This new data confirms previously-established scientific theories about water on the moon, but many questions as to its origins and potential uses remain unanswered (NPR).
Happening in the US: Amy Coney Barrett was sworn in as the newest member of the United States Supreme Court on Tuesday, locking in a conservative majority that will shape the court for years to come. The confirmation was the first in 151 years that received no votes from the minority party, and the first in American history to occur within a week of a presidential election (The New York Times).
Happening in NYC: New Yorkers are continuing to participate in early voting despite rainy weather and hours-long lines. Nearly 200,000 city residents voted in the first two days of early voting on Saturday and Sunday, breaking the record for all early voting in the previous year. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez denounced election officials over the weekend, saying that the lines at NYC polling locations — some stretching for blocks — were an unacceptable form of voter suppression (The Gothamist).
Happening in Our Community: This Thursday evening, artists R. Sikoryak, Breena Nuñez, Ezra Claytan Daniels, and Derf and moderator Karen Green will host a conversation about confronting conflict with art in “America: WTF?: Comics in a Time of Crisis.” You can register for the event here.
Lame Limerick of the Week: Out Of The Loop
When somebody mentions Among Us
I feel I’m hit by a confundus
I’m behind on what’s cool
So I feel like a fool
Can’t ask cause I’m too much of a wuss
