A nor’easter is on its way!

Happening in the World: Astronomers have discovered that there is indeed a planet with roughly the density of cotton candy. The planet, WASP-107b, is in the Virgo constellation, about 212 light-years away from Earth. While its size is comparable to Jupiter, it is much lighter—labeling it as a “super puff.” But, scientists at McGill University and Université de Montréal say that it is the puffiest. (CBC)

Happening in the US: Heavy rain and snow caused the collapse of a piece of California’s Highway 1. Officials explained that a debris flow overwhelmed the drainage infrastructure and eroded the road—which cause the loss of the segment. The collapse happened at Rat Creek, which is about 15 miles north of Big Sur, a mountainous stretch on the central coast. Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties due to the winter storm. (CNN)

Happening in NYC: A blizzard is making its way toward New York tonight. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch beginning at 7 pm tonight and expiring on Tuesday at 6 am. Between 6 and 10 inches of snow are expected, with additional wind gusts up to 45 mph. Several news sources have declared the snow to be “messy” where the snow won’t be neatly packed. (Gothamist)
