This week’s CCSC meeting was short and sweet but still gave plenty of time to pack in news on the Resource Fund and an exciting new survey launch!

Huge welcome to new Student Services Representative Skye Bork (CC ’21), Pre-Professional Representative Anthony Adessa (CC ’22), and Class of 2023 Representative Virginia Lo (CC ’23) for their first meeting as appointed general body members!

VP Policy Rads Mehta (CC ’22) addressed concerns that had been raised about New York Times subscriptions for students, as it appears that the free membership provided by the university to all students has ceased at least for some this semester. Through her conversations with administrators, VP Mehta has learned that those funds were re-allocated towards wifi improvements on campus and one exciting new development: free entertainment streaming services for students. More details to come as we wait for information on which streaming services will become available, and when.

According to both VP Mehta and VP Finance Sophia Adeghe (CC ’22), the last Resource Fund requests have just been approved before the (possibly) temporary shut down of the fund due as they have reached their initial spending cap. Up to now, about $120,000 of the Resource Fund was used towards purchasing academic materials and essentials to students living remotely from campus in need of supplies they would have had access to if on campus. CCSC will now wait to hear from FACU for word on how much money is left to determine if the Resource Fund will continue throughout the spring or not.

VP Communications Krishna Menon (CC ’22) has finalized the Spring Planning Survey whose responses will aid CCSC members to prioritize problems and policies that are most pertinent to students. Please fill out this survey and encourage your Columbia friends to do the same as it allows general body members to serve students most effectively. The survey will not be collecting personal identifying information so please answer truthfully and completely!
