TW: Police violence
Bwogline: Chicago police released footage of an altercation in which an officer fatally shot 13-year-old Adam Toledo, who was Latino, on March 29. The footage showed that Toledo was not holding a gun when he was shot, contrary to what the prosecutors had claimed, and was complying with police orders (NYT).
Study Tip: Read back through your notes, and type up one-page summaries of each unit. Even if you don’t intend to use the summaries for anything, the act of doing it is really good for helping to bring together all of the important information in you brain, at least in my experience.
Music of the Day: Check out this ridiculous video of Dutch prog-rock band Focus performing their 1973 hit “Hocus Pocus” on NBC. They condense the entire six-minute song, which contains yodeling, improvisational vocal percussion, guitar pyrotechnics, and a flute solo, into four by speeding it up. To quote one youtube commenter: “They played this song like their tour bus was double-parked outside.”
Procrastination Tip: Watch an immersive Netflix series that you will feel emotionally obligated to finish in its entirety before you can get anything else done. May I suggest the German science-fiction-ish series “Dark?” It’s a little bit like stranger things, but with more sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. To tell you anything more at all about it would spoil some part of it.
Overseen/overheard: “‘Machete’ is in the Spykids Cinematic Universe.”
