New York City is packed with amazing culture and inspiring art and now with so much of it online for free, there’s never been a better time to experience it first-hand. “Where Art Thou” is a weekly guide to interesting and notable lectures, events, and performances for the literary/musically/theatrically-inclined.

Performances:

  • Columbia’s International Play Reading Festival will be continuing virtually on October 20 at 6:30 pm with Lebanese playwright Dima Mikhayel Matta’s This is not a memorized script, this is a well-rehearsed story that dives into the topics of gender, memory, sex, and identity.
  • The Lenfest Center will be presenting a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler adapted by students Diana Fathi and Rakesh Palisetty. Performances will be on October 21, 22, and 23 at 8 pm and again on October 23 at 2 pm.
  • On October 21 at 5:30 pm, the Barnard Feminist Film Series will be continuing with Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story in Altschul 202.
  • The Chamber Music Society of New York will be continuing their virtual artist series on October 20 at 7:30 featuring violinist Benjamin Beilman.

Discussions:

  • In celebration of the annual International Play Reading Festival, playwrights Asiimwe Deborah Kawe, Nick Makoha, and Dima Mikhayel Matta will be participating in a panel discussion led by David Henry Hwang.
