New York City is packed with amazing culture and inspiring art, and now that so much of it is online for free, there’s never been a better time to experience it first-hand. “Where Art Thou” is a weekly guide to interesting and notable lectures, events, and performances for the literary/musically/theatrically-inclined.
Performances & Films:
- On April 1 at 6:30 pm in the Diana Event Oval, there will be an Opening Ceremony for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Featuring CU Generation, CU Taiko, Malama Hawai’i, Raas, Columbia China Dance, CU Wushu, CU Lion Dance, and keynote speaker Inga Lam.
- The Columbia Circus Collective and Kings Crown Shakespeare Troupe will be presenting a production of Hamlet at the GMT on March 31 at 8 pm, April 1 at 5 pm and 8 pm, and April 2 at 1 pm.
- There will be a live drop-in screening in the GMT from 12 to 6 pm on March 28 through April 3 of Moving Body – Moving Image, a film that “focuses on the moving body with disabilities and its representation on screen.”
- The Ukrainian Film Club will be hosting a screening of Beshoot, a 2019 Ukrainian war drama, in the Marshall D. Shulman Seminar Room in the IAB at 6 pm on March 31.
Visual Art:
- On March 30 at 6:30 pm the Institute for African-American Studies will be hosting a virtual art and politics event entitled “On African Art and Meaning: A Reclamation with Lauren Tate-Baeza.”
- The Columbia School of the Arts will be presenting their Visual Arts Class of 2023 First-Year MFA Exhibition from 12 to 6 pm on March 26 through April 10.
Musical Events:
- The Kenny Barron Trio will be performing at the Miller Theatre on April 2 at 8 pm with a selection of American Jazz music.
- Simone Dinnerstein will be presenting a performance of the Goldberg Variations at the Miller Theatre on March 31 at 8 pm.
