Happening in the World: The San Antonio Zoo has an unconventional fundraiser in place called Cry Me a Cockroach. In honor of Valentine’s Day, they began a promotional fundraiser where people can make a donation to name a cockroach after their ex. This fundraiser has been so successful that its supporters are no longer just from the San Antonio area. In fact, participants have sent their support from all fifty states and thirty different countries. (BBC)

Happening in the US: On Monday the Cherokee Nation announced their plans to create an 18 million dollar treatment center for Cherokees to receive free help dealing with different drug addictions. Many indigenous communities were affected disproportionately by the opioid crisis. Because of this, some tribes began a lawsuit process with several corporations. The Cherokee Nation recently settled a lawsuit with drug manufacturers and distributors that resulted in a 98 million dollar settlement. They intend to funnel this money back into the tribe through healthcare facilities and resources. (AP)

Happening in NYC: On Monday morning a U-Haul truck injured at least eight people in Brooklyn—reportedly causing one person’s death. The driver sped through the city for approximately 40 minutes while hitting victims in several locations throughout the city. Police chased him for miles before stopping him near the entrance to the Battery Park Tunnel. At a press conference, the NYPD confirmed that they had the suspect in custody and that no evidence pointed towards terrorism as a motivation for the violence. (Gothamist)
