These gifts will be a guaranteed hit with any Barnard Baddie!
Since December has begun and the holidays, or just winter break, are now on everyone’s mind, gift shopping has begun! I am someone who loves a gift guide so I decided to make one for that Barnard baddie in your life:
- A gift card to a local coffee shop: As someone who ran out of my points quickly getting drinks at Liz’s I ended up having to spend my money at other coffee shops. Some nearby places to grab a gift card include Qahwah House, Joe Coffee, Niko Coffee + more, and Oren’s Coffee.
- Tote bag: Tote bags are a clear staple on our campus and honestly you can never have enough! There are cute options from brands such as ooomay, Kate Spade, Baggu, and L.L. Bean.
- Books by our talented alumni: Barnard has many accomplished writers and their books are always a great Barnard themed gift. You could buy any book by Zora Neal Hurston ‘28, such as Their Eyes Were Watching God, or a novel by Jhumpa Lahiri ‘89, namely Interpreter of Maladies. Plus, if any of your friends like to cook and bake, you could even buy them a cookbook by Martha Stewart ‘63.
- Clogs/Doc Martens: These classic footwear options are a comfortable and fashionable staple and as someone who wears both, I definitely recommend. My favorite pair of clogs are from Birkenstock and you can never go wrong with a classic pair of Doc Marten boots.
- Carabiner: Besides the fact that carabiners are cute and add another accessory to your outfit, they are also extremely practical to hold your keys and other items. There are cute ones on Amazon, the Barnard Store, and Etsy.
- Barnard points: As I mentioned earlier, it is easy to quickly run out of points so gifting a few to a friend is never a bad idea, especially if they are a first year! You can add points to an account here.
- Book Culture gift card: Another gift card on the list, but nonetheless a great gift. This is a gift card for any book lover you know and because you can buy course books at Book Culture, a gift card from here cannot hurt. Plus, you get to support a local business!
- Workout clothes for the new Barnard gym: Now that our new gym is open, it is definitely an excuse to buy new workout clothes. Brands that I would recommend are Lululemon, FP Movement, Vuori, Old Navy, and Nike.
- An air purifier and a hand vacuum: These are essentials for your dorm (in my opinion). As someone who did not bring either my first semester and ended up buying them later, they are definitely worth it and more valuable than you would think!
- Self care products: Since finals go right up until the winter break, students will definitely need some self care products to rejuvenate themselves before the spring semester. This could be anything from a sheet mask, to a warm pajama set, or even a new cozy blanket.
