The hostages included three Israeli men who had been seized from the Nova music festival, as well as another who was abducted when visiting his family in Southern Israel. Happening in the US: During a meeting at the White House on Friday, President Donald Trump clashed with Maine’s Democratic Governor Janet Mills over his push to deny federal funding to the state over transgender athletes. The meeting was unlike usual diplomatic interactions between lawmakers at the White House, with Trump predicting the end of Mills’ political career for being against the order. (AP)

Happening in NYC: Luigi Mangione, who is accused of murdering United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, appeared in the first court hearing since his arraignment, drawing a large crowd.
