No Senate seat for him, I guess…

Happening in the World: An aide to Russian President Valdimir Putin has dismissed the possibility of a short-term ceasefire with Ukraine. This news follows American President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff’s arrival to Russia to discuss a 30-day ceasefire proposal. Putin’s envoy, however, has stated that such a ceasefire would be “nothing but a temporary respite” for Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that his country is “determined” to work “as quickly as possible” towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict. (BBC)

Happening in the US: Former US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg is set to announce that he does not plan on seeking a Michigan Senate seat in the upcoming midterm elections. This decision leaves him open to a much bigger position—the party’s next presidential nominee. While his choice not to run for Senate office risks the possibility of a loss of a critical seat for the Democrats, it may strengthen party efforts to find a new leader capable of countering President Donald Trump. The company’s goal is to open its doors in 2028, and to have a bar and restaurant attached as well. (Gothamist)

Happening in our Community: Today from 11 am-2 pm, Operation ID is offering free “electronic tattoos” for your bikes and electronic devices. A collaboration between Columbia University Public Safety and the NYPD, the project is a part of a larger crime prevention program with hopes of reducing theft. The “tattoo” is a unique ID number engraved into your item, making selling stolen property significantly more difficult and return of lost items significantly easier. The event will take place in the lobby of the Allan Rosenfield Building, 722 W 168th St, and registration isn’t necessary. More info can be found here.
