Bwog’s hearts will go on for fall.
Happening off-campus: Botswana has declared Monday, September 29, a public holiday in honor of their historic victory in the men’s 4 x 400 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, making them the first African nation to win this event. The team of Lee Bhekempilo Eppie, Letsile Tebogo, Bayapo Ndori and Busang Collen Kebinatshipi defeated the US team, who had won the previous 10 world titles, in the pouring rain. President Duma Boko praised the achievement as a “historic African win” and compared the athletes to the country’s natural diamonds, announcing the holiday just one day before Botswana’s independence day. Last year, Botswana also saw success at the Paris Olympics with Leslie Tebogo, who won the nation’s first gold medal in the men’s 200 meter. (BBC)
Happening near campus: Sarah Boll, a 38 year old model and Titanic superfan who has seen the movie “over 500 times,” transformed her Manhattan apartment into a detailed replica of the famous ship. She converted her two-bedroom Chinatown rental with portholes, gold decals mimicking the ship’s Verandah Cafe, gilded panels in the bedroom, and a bathroom memorial displaying victims’ names, plus a “Water Room” in her second bedroom designed as a shipwreck diorama with mountains of blue fabric. She went viral on TikTok for her unconventional decor, and even hosted a Titanic party at her apartment, estimating she has spent several thousand dollars on the project. Her next venture is The Wizard of Oz. (Gothamist)

Rewatching: Currently halfway through a rewatch of Gilmore Girls! It is officially the time of year again to hear Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham (Barnard alum) talk fast and drink coffee. I forgot how culty Star’s Hollow is, but I kind of love it. Also, Dave Rygalski (AKA Seth Cohen, AKA Adam Brody) is the best boyfriend on that show by a mile.
