Columbia’s inaugural ROARFest brings fall festivities to Low Plaza.
Happening off-Campus: María Corina Machado, leader of Venezuela’s democratic movement, has won the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Machado helped mobilize hundreds of thousands of volunteers to document the final tallies of the 2024 Venezuelan presidential election. In their announcement, the Norwegian Nobel Committee commended Machado for “keep[ing] the flame of democracy burning amid a growing darkness.” (NPP)
Happening near Campus: City Councilmember Lincoln Restler of Brooklyn has proposed a new bill that would allow NYC restaurants, grocery stores, and cafes to provide roadway dining year-round. This proposal comes more than a year after the NYC Department of Transportation implemented new rules and regulations limiting the roadway dining season to between April 1 and November 29.
