Happening off-Campus: Earlier today, Representative Nancy Pelosi announced that she will retire at the end of her term in early 2027, concluding a nearly four-decade career in Congress. Pelosi, 85, was the nation’s first and only female House speaker and will have represented San Francisco for 39 years when she leaves office. (NYT

Happening near Campus: Bronx voters ousted the borough’s only Republican City Council member on Tuesday in one of the city’s closest races in this election. Democrat Shirley Aldebol defeated Republican incumbent Kristy Marmorato in the contest for the City Council seat covering Throgs Neck, Pelham Bay, Morris Park, and City Island. Aldebol edged out Marmorato by about five points. Marmorato conceded at a watch party on Tuesday night, and the Bronx Democratic Party celebrated the Bronx’s return to being a fully Democratic borough. (Gothamist)

Happening on Campus: Alice! Health Promotion and Recovery Coalition is hosting therapy dogs from New York Therapy Animals today in the Science and Engineering Library from 12:30 to 1:30pm. Access is first come, first served, with a cap of 60 participants. No pre-registration is required. This event is only open to students with a valid Columbia ID. Find more information here
