In this Bwaking with Bwog, I made some treats for my friend’s theatre bake sale! You too can make some yourself or enjoy them for a couple dollars at the Lerner Ramp today from 10 am to 6 pm!

When I got the call from my friend to help out with making some “70s-Chicago-themed” treats for her King’s Crown Shakespeare Troupe theatre production Timon From Athens, I was more than happy to bake some of these treats!

Here are the recipes we used:

Ingredients (Cookies):

  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Butter
  • Brown sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract
  • M&Ms

Instructions (Cookies):

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F.
  2. Combine butter, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl and mix until combined.
  3. Gradually mix in flour and baking powder.
  4. Stir in M&Ms.
  5. Scoop dough into large balls and place on baking sheet about two inches apart
  6. Bake for nine or so minutes until brown around the edges.

Ingredients (Brownies):

  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Cocoa powder
  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Egg
  • Chocolate chips

Instructions (Brownies):

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. Combine butter and sugar in a saucepan heating over medium heat and stirring until the butter is completely melted.
  3. Whisk egg and sugar in a bowl until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix flour and cocoa powder until combined.
  5. Pour the warm butter mixture into the egg mixture, and then stir in the flour and cocoa powder mixture when the butter and egg mixtures have combined.
  6. Add in chocolate chips.
  7. Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and bake for around 30 minutes or until the edges are firm.

Ingredients (Rice Krispies):

  • Butter
  • Marshmallows
  • Rice crisp cereal

Instructions (Rice Krispies):

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat.
  2. Add marshmallows and stir until well combined.
  3. Stir in rice krispies/any rice crisp cereal until combined.
  4. Add in additional marshmallows to the mixture.
  5. Press the mixture into a prepared pan and gently pat down to ensure it is even.
  6. Allow rice krispies to cool completely before cutting into pieces.
