AI, a snowball fight, and a composer. Editor’s warning: some mentions of violence.

Happening off-campus: Nvidia, a company specializing in the making of AI chips, announced yesterday that their most recent fiscal quarter was yet another of tremendous growth. Over the last three years, Nvidia’s market value has multiplied dramatically, being worth almost $4.8 trillion today compared to $400 billion in 2022. Despite this, investors are concerned about the increasingly vast amounts of money spent towards AI development and if the technology will be able to deliver on company promises, with stock prices in Nvidia already falling 3% shortly after the announcement was made. Happening near campus: A man was arrested this morning under suspicion of alleged involvement in a snowball fight that took place on Monday afternoon in Washington Square Park. According to the NYPD, two officers, who afterwards sought treatment at Northwell Greenwich Village Hospital, were hit with snow by a large crowd over the course of this incident. Mayor Zohran Mamdani has stated that he does not believe it is necessary to pursue criminal charges against those who participated, stating “to me it was a snowball fight that got out of hand and it should be treated accordingly.” The District Attorney’s office has yet to state publicly whether it intends to prosecute the case. Bielawa is a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow and a Rome Prize winner who draws inspiration from literary sources for her works. The Contemporaneous ensemble is set to make their Miller Theatre debut performing alongside the composer. Find more information here.
