Beginning this Sunday, the Metropolitan Museum will be hosting one of the first and most comprehensive collections of the Renaissance painter, Raphael.

Happening Off Campus: As TSA lines are becoming longer and longer, airports have been searching for ways to counteract the effects of the partial government shutdown. Recently, a new program has been created which may solve this problem, allowing passengers to wait in security lines for minutes instead of hours. The Screening Partnership Program is a federal initiative that allows airports to use private contractors to operate security checkpoints instead of Transportation and Security Administration employees. Airports including San Francisco International Airport, Kansas City International Airport, Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, along with a collection of other smaller airports, have been participating in this new system. As of right now, the new system has been a success, with some airports reporting wait times below 10 minutes, with longer wait times being limited to 30 minutes. (New York Times)

Happening Near Campus: Beginning this Sunday, the Metropolitan Museum will  be unveiling its new collection, Raphael: Sublime Poetry. The collection will be one of the first comprehensive collections by Raffaello di Giovanni Santi, a painter known for shaping the Italian Renaissance. This collection will feature over 230 works gathered from about 60 museums, including Raphael’s first commission “The Virgin and Child with Infant Saint John the Baptist in a Landscape (The Alba Madonna).” In addition, the collection will not solely be made up of final works, but also rough sketches and studies. The exhibition is laid out chronologically, concluding with three tapestries acquired by King Philip II of Spain, which have never been shown outside of Madrid. (Gothamist)
