Prepare for Manhattanhenge!

Happening Off-Campus: This past Saturday, a humpback whale named Timmy was released in the North Sea. The whale had been stranded for weeks off of the coast of Germany, and has finally been freed after this fifth attempt to move it. The successful plan, involved coaxing Timmy into a water-filled barge that was half the length of a football field. The barge was then towed from the Baltic Sea where Timmy had been stuck to the northern tip of Denmark. “He is doing well,” Walter Gunz, a German millionaire leading the rescue effort.

Happening Near Campus: May brings the arrival of Manhattanhenge and two full moons. Last night displayed the first full moon of the year, while New Yorkers gathered to celebrate in a Brooklyn graveyard. The full moon will return on May 31st. In addition to the full moons, the ETA Aquarius meteor shower began last month and will run until May 21st. Finally, Manhattanhenge happens when the sun aligns with the city street grid. This will happen on May 28th at precisely 8:14 in the evening.
