Citi Bike users are calling on the Mayor’s Office to reverse its 15 mph speed limit on the Lyft-owned e-bikes.

Happening off Campus: On Thursday, Chinese leader Xi Jinping had a state dinner with U.S. President Donald Trump, among other notable guests such as the CEOs of Nvidia and Tesla. This is XI’s first visit to the White House in over a decade, and he has a lot on his agenda to discuss with Trump, including the future of artificial intelligence, trade progress between the US and China, and Taiwan independence (CNN).

Happening near Campus: Last year, former New York City Mayor Eric Adams introduced a 15 mph speed limit on all Citi Bike e-bikes. Now, Citi Bike users are starting to feel the financial strain. According to one rider, a 6-mile ride from Chambers Street to 125th Street at 18 mph (the original limit) used to take 20 minutes and cost at least $5.40; now, that same ride takes 25 minutes and costs at least $6.48.  For those who depend on Citi Bikes for daily transportation, these small cost differences add up. Lyft, which now owns Citi Bike, notably recorded a 263% YoY increase in profits in 2025 (Gothamist).
