Happening off campus: Our very own Greta Gerwig (BC ’06) is slated for an adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia, featuring Meryl Streep as Aslan the lion. The casting decision has sparked controversy among conservative Christian commentators in light of the character’s association as a literary representation of Jesus, who famously is thought to be male. The film, produced by Netflix, is scheduled for release in theatres in February. (AP)
Happening near campus: Chip City, the cookie chain originating in Astoria, permanently closed all locations this past weekend. The decision was abrupt, with the chain’s social media still promoting new cookie flavors as of last Thursday. A legal dispute between the company and its co-founder/former CEO Peter Phillips, in which Phillips claims Chip City failed to pay him severance after he stepped down in March of this year, is ongoing. Happening on campus: A Fellows’ Seminar titled “On Dante, Avicenna, Renaissance Italy” will take place today at 4 pm. Moderated by Teodolinda Barolini, Fellows Francesco Marco Aresu and Mali Caterina Alinejad Zanjani will host their seminar in the Italian Academy, with opening remarks by Barbara Faedda, Interim Director.
