Tesla’s Roadster 2, unveiled on Thursday, can drive upside down, flip, and fly.
Happening off-Campus: On Thursday, Elon Musk unveiled the world’s first flying car, the Tesla Roadster 2. In the words of Musk, the car’s altitude controls and thrusters allow it to do some “crazy gymnastics.” On stage at a SpaceX testing facility, the CEO demonstrated it driving upside down on a curved ramp, doing a 360-degree rotation, and then gliding over a semi-truck. The car will go into full-scale production in 2028 and has a minimum deposit of $50,000 (The Guardian).
Happening near Campus: With November’s gubernatorial elections fast approaching, incumbent Kathy Hochul (D) and her opponent Bruce Blakeman (R) have offered different solutions to the recent exodus of 20 million New Yorkers. Hochul’s platform emphasizes job creation through incentives like the $5.5 billion she’s pledged in exchange for 50,000 jobs from Micron. Meanwhile, Blakeman’s platform pushes for the deregulation of hydrofracking and data center development so that more companies choose New York as their home base (Gothamist).
Happening on Campus: To celebrate the retirement of Professor Casey Nelson Blake, the Center for American Studies and the Department of History are hosting a day-long conference with presentations by his former students today. Register here.
