Football wins a tight match against Penn.

Football

On the night of Friday, October 16, the football team defeated Penn, 28-27, in Philadelphia, in a comeback victory. Penn quickly pulled ahead to a 24-7 lead one minute into the second quarter, but Columbia responded quickly thereafter and were only behind by three points (24-21) during halftime. Penn scored a field goal in the lone score of the third quarter, pulling ahead 27-21, but with six minutes left in the fourth quarter, Bryce Coleman caught a touchdown pass from Chase Goodwin, and the extra point from Hugo Merry put Columbia ahead for the first time all game. Penn did not score again, ensuring Columbia’s 28-27 victory.

Penn outgained Columbia in total offensive yards (446 vs. 362 respectively), but Columbia intercepted Penn four times compared to Penn’s two interceptions. Columbia’s senior quarterback Chase Goodwin threw for 237 yards, 3 touchdowns (all three to freshman receiver Bryce Coleman), while senior running back Griffin Johnson ran for 82 yards and the other touchdown.

Field Hockey

The field hockey team defeated Penn 3-0 on October 16, and defeated Hofstra, 2-1, in Hempstead, NY, on October 18.

Men’s Soccer

On Saturday, October 17, the men’s soccer team lost to Dartmouth, 0-3, in Hanover, New Hampshire. 

Women’s Soccer

On Saturday, October 17, the women’s soccer team defeated Penn, 3-2, at Philadelphia. 

Volleyball

On Friday, October 16, the volleyball team lost to Yale, 0-3. The day after, the team lost to Brown, 0-3.
