Bwogger recounts things heard and seen this past Thursday at Slate: Columbia’s annual CC Halloween event!
Slate’s crowd every year ranges. Sometimes it is filled to the brim with eager first-years; sometimes it is filled with second and third years who didn’t want to pay for a pricey frat event; other times, there are many nostalgic seniors. Most times it’s a mixture of them all. This intriguing crowd led me to wonder what I could observe from each group around me. Here are some things I heard:
- “I’m a wizard? Or the Illuminati?” – Guy in a cloak with a white mask.
- “I’m only here for the food.”
- “Thinking he could grab a mac and cheese bite from me is crazy.” If you tried the mac n cheese bites at Slate, i’m sure you understand this.
- “There’s no throw up on the slide?” I am pleased to say I also went down the slide happy to see no mess :)
- “Are you dressed up as a Care Bear?” – Said to someone who was clearly a dinosaur.
- “Some bitch hit me when I was coming down the slide.”
- “I wanted to do Cleopatra, but I had to settle for a leopard. I didn’t know this was so soon.”
- “Her queen of hearts costume is gonna mog mine.”
- “Now that I went down the slide, can we go home?”
- Someone dropped a scarf in the subway station, to which a random person replied, “Oh shit, that scarf has the plague!”
& Here are some things that I saw:
- Multiple Eren Yeager costumes
- Two girls dressed as lampshades
- Performance in Hocus Pocus inspired drag
- Fancy pigs in a blanket at the buffet table
- A friend group of different decades of clowns
- A plate spilled on the ground that only consisted of mac n cheese bites and egg rolls
Slate always has a certain charm to it, whether that lies in the food choices, drag performances, or giant slide. Listening and observing the audience at Slate was extremely fun, and I hope if you went, the mac n cheese bites made it at least worthwhile :)
