By now, she’s more a symbol of BC than DSpar herself…or the Vag, for that matter. Barnard, meet your new Chair of the Board, Jolyne Caruso-FitzGerald (phew!), BC’81. Email from DSpar follows:

Dear Members of the Barnard Community,

This afternoon the Barnard College Board of Trustees elected Jolyne Caruso-FitzGerald ’81 as the incoming Chair of the Board, effective at the end of this academic year, for a five-year term. A pioneering Wall Street executive and philanthropist, Jolyne is president of the global investment company Platinum Gate Capital Management, former managing director at Lehman Brothers, and founder of two Wall Street firms. A trustee since 2000, she has served as vice chair of the Board, chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, co-chair of the Development Committee, and a member of the Committee on Governance.  I know that both the College and the Board greatly look forward to her ongoing leadership and support as Board Chair.

Jolyne will succeed Anna Quindlen ’74, who has led the Board for seven years. Anna will be stepping down as Board Chair, but will remain an active and beloved trustee. There are simply no words to describe what Anna’s leadership has meant to the College — our students, our campus, and our entire community. She has generously pledged to continue to serve Barnard in any way she can, and we are delighted and fortunate for her invaluable service. We look forward, as always, to hearing her inspiring words at this year’s commencement on May 17th.
Both Anna and Jolyne deserve our deepest thanks.  Their combined devotion, energy and service to the College have improved the institution in countless ways, and I have no doubt Jolyne’s leadership will continue to fortify the College for many years to come.

Sincerely, Debora Spar
