Breaking: 113th Crawling with Police

Written by

Bwog has received multiple tips that 113th street is crawling with police. Tipster say that they are responding to a student with a rumored mental health issue in one of the Columbia dorms to the left of Symposium. If you have any information, let us know at tips@bwog.com.

Update 2:30pm Public Safety has issued the following email:

Dear Members of the Morningside Community,

Significant NYPD presence at 113th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. Please avoid this block until further notice.

Thank you,

CU Public Safety

Update 2:57pm Police have taken down the barricades, and traffic is moving again on 113th. Apparently a woman in her 20s, in what we believe was 540 or 542 113th Street (both Columbia apartment buildings administered by UAH) was put in an FDNY ambulance while screaming—it is rumored she had barricaded herself into her room. NYPD removed her from her apartment and put her in the ambulance. No confirmation on if she is a Columbia student or not.

The police line has been taken down, and traffic is moving again. Emergency vehicles are pulling out.

Update, 3:20 pm Public Safety sent this email:

NYPD activity on113th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue has concluded successfully. The street has now been reopened. Thank you!.

Update, 6:06 pm Public Safety has confirmed to Bwog that the woman was a GSAS student in 542 W 113th.  She was emotionally disturbed and removed to St. Luke’s Hospital.

because you are a criminal when you force an entire block to shut down

@anon: @anon: Are you upset because this persons suffering forced you to make a small detour? Don't worry you're friends will still be standing in front of dodge, smoking when you get there. You won't miss your pity part, and if you do i'm sure you'll have another one tomorrow.

Or I couldn't get to my dorm and I wanted to eat lunch before I went to class again. But your story sounds much more likely

          • yep

Because there was no way you could have just bought lunch elsewhere. But I'm sure this person is in the hospital this very moment, wracked by mental illness and the guilt over your hungry tummy :(

u seem like an insufferable person

@yep well some of us can't afford to pay for lunch in new york city. Check your privilege

            "Check your privilege"..

You're trolling bwog complaining because the rescue crew the police and fire department sent to help someone in trouble delayed your personal frugal gourmet..., Crying poverty and you are at columbia, living on 114th practically on campus.
Sounds like you're full of shit and full of yourself.

          • anon

just because i go to columbia means i must be rich right? how about i can barely afford to stay here and i spend about $10 a week on food because thats all i have taking 5 classes and working a job. Not everyone's mommy and daddy can afford to throw money at their children, clearly you have never experienced not being able to do something because you cannot afford it in your life.

I applied to columbia while i was living in a homeless shelter. Sounds like you had a rough time though.

You're probably the only one here who has to work and take out loans.
Next time tell the cops your story. they'll probably be so heartbroken, so filled with sorrow and pity that the'll abandon the person who is danger to personally carry you to your porridge, singing "it's a hard knock life" in unison. But that would be dangerous because they might trip over the bags of money that other student's folks have been dropping from their leerjets and helicopters. The bottom line is you are so selfish, so closed minded and arrogant that you were more worried about your lunch than someone else's life.

stop with the red herring privelege b.s. You whining about not being able to get lunch because of someone's breakdown has nothing to do anyone's wealth and everything to do with you not having a soul. You're lack of empathy for this person trumps our perceived lack of empathy for your situation by a huge margin.

Also, i have recently checked my privilege and i still stand by everything i just said. http://checkprivilege.x10.mx/

I just checked my privilege and I got a score of -335. yall need to check your privilege

I applied to Columbia while living in the Sarlacc pit, its stomach acids slowly, excruciatingly eating away at my meager frame, while I filled out my FAFSA forms in a galaxy far, far away.
