Money trees is the perfect place for shade

Environmental Stewardship has introduced a new program to earn funding for sustainable projects here at Columbia. Following is the official press release.

Beginning Monday, Dec. 2, all full time Columbia University students are invited to submit an application for the newly created Green Fund. Spearheaded by the office of Environmental Stewardship, the Green Fund is an initiative that grants funding for student-led projects focused on improving sustainability on Columbia University campuses. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency asserts that sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations. Collaboratively Columbia Dining, Housing and University Event Management have subsidized the $25,000 fund.

Green Fund recipients will be selected by a sustainability committee comprised of University personnel and students. The committee is looking to fund approximately four to six projects, at an average of $5,000 to $10,000 per project. In order to be eligible, projects must directly contribute to the environmental sustainability of Columbia’s operations, have a defined and measurable outcome, and include components that raise greater awareness of sustainability initiatives on campus. Additionally, students must plan for a formalized final report and presentation of their findings and/or results.

Applications are due by Friday, Feb. 14 and must be submitted online via the Environmental Stewardship website.
