Just so you happening kids know, Chowdah is going to be doing a reading of children’s classic Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret on the sundial starting at 8:30 AM and ending at 6 PM. It’s in celebration of our first night of auditions, which start at 7 PM that night in Hamilton. Also, training bras.
Kisses and hugs,
Justin
Update: The event hasn’t gone exactly as Chowdah planned. They were unable to secure the right permits, and were thus kicked off the Sundial twenty minutes after beginning. Chowdah members are now wandering around Low Steps reading from Judy Blume, presumably avoiding capture by Columbia Public Safety. God is dead.
Update: (2:28 PM) Chowdah has reached the part where Margaret declares her desire to have a bra.

@how ironic How ironic that after this discussion of jumping through hoops, it turns out Chowdah jumped through none and were punished for it. Apparently they would have had to reserve the sundial in May in order for this event to be legit…
@wow this place’s ridiculous bureaucracy is more out of control than I thought…
@look It’s one of the 100 greatest novels since 1923: http://www.time.com/time/2005/100books/0,24459,are_you_there_god_its_me_margaret,00.html
@no, it means that after 3 years the novelty has worn off when you have to jump through so many hoops to do anything around here. i’ve jumped through so many of them by this point that I know the system better than most of the people who make me jump, probably because I’ve been here longer than them too.
i love this school, but it’s despite far too many flaws than a college student should have to endure. heck, I might even love columbia out of pure spite at this point. take that soul sucking administration!
@Whoa Um, lighten up a little? The criticism of systems around here is pretty fair, but it has more or less nothing to do with this event. Chowdah likely jumped through very very few hoops to stage a reading on the sundial, so shut up and let the kids enjoy it.
@yup I agree with 5, though I’m not sure what it has to do with judy blume. this is actually one of the few things (spontaneously reading something atop the sundial) you don’t have to “jump through hoops” to deal with here…in fact, you don’t even have to go here to listen to/participate in something like that…
@Translation: I am so cool. I look down on freshmen who have the typical Freshman Experience, because depriving them of that makes me cooler somehow. Man, I really hope some day these freshmen grow up to be condescending dicks like me.
@urph? Am I the only one who doesn’t know what the fuck # 2 is talking about?
@this is why I came to college. SO psyched for this.
I hope I’m not still in class when she finally gets her period. The whole story builds up to that moment.
@jaded I remember when things like this excited me. Then i realized how rare they are, and how contrived they end up being.
i’ll bet money you’ll get a kick out of the tree lighting and yule log ceremony this year. actually I do to, at least the free stuff.
