@blah “The standards for ____ to get into Columbia are significantly lower than for all other students”
You can fill in that blank lots of ways. Be careful.
“Sure some of the athletes could have gotten in on their own, but a majority couldn’t have. Sorry you can’t deal with the truth.”
Proof? Thanks.
“Why would your donations go to athletics?”
Because it’s something the poster cares about and perhaps is something that was a meaningful part of his/her Columbia experience?
The vast majority of my time here, Columbia the academic institution has ignored me. That’s probably why I care more about supporting my extra-currics and financial aid when I graduate.
Also, Poster #9 essentially demolished your assertion that “alumni don’t care about anyway.” Thanks for acknowledging that.
@heads up it’s “roar lion roar,” not roar lions roar.
@... Links fixed.
@EAL Better yet: Congrats to Columbia football for snagging this guy. I’ve been following recruiting with interest, and a good portion of the incoming class is comprised of players named to all-state teams. Good work, Norries Wilson.
Now if we can only use this talent to record some wins in the Ivy League…
@Now if only Columbia could stop admitting unqualified students who won’t help win football games that alumni don’t care about anyway…
@EAL The name of the blog is “Roar Lions Roar”, while the song, as you rightly pointed out is “Roar Lion Roar.”
And to you, #8: Kindly shut the fuck up. Nobody cares about your apathetic hipster ass. If alumni didn’t care about football, why do you think we raised over $50 million at Homecoming to build a new athletic center at Baker Field. I know all my donations to Columbia will go to athletics. I’m not forcing you to like sports, but the consistent put-downs from people like you (Ginia Sweeney’s Spec column of last spring ring a bell?) of our football players and our sports teams in general are quite irritating. Many of our football players are indeed qualified individuals. And I neither play football here nor am I a Sigma Chi brother.
@"Apathetic Hipster" The standards for athletes to get into Columbia are significantly lower than for all other students, yet our teams are not remarkable in any way. Sure some of the athletes could have gotten in on their own, but a majority couldn’t have. Sorry you can’t deal with the truth.
PS. Why would your donations go to athletics? Columbia is an academic institution. I know this is hard to grasp, but perhaps donations should go to academic ventures? This might just be my “apathetic hipster ass” talking, though.
@EAL Meh. The Punch Bowl’s jokes may be in bad taste, but that’s exactly what makes them funny. Asians at a fraternity party playing drinking games? Don’t be silly, that never happens!
They could have been much worse, as the Fed will gladly demonstrate.
Jester still pwns the Punch Bowl anyway.
@daniella erm, it’s not that fancy — $75 on ebay!
