Dear Barnard College Community:
We recently became aware of an incident that occurred on Friday morning, March 11, 2011, at approximately 03:30 A.M., in which a Barnard College student was the victim of a sexual offense at West 112 Street and Broadway. The student was walking northbound on the east side of Broadway when an intoxicated male grabbed her arm and fondled her. The student resisted, by kicking the male in the groin area and breaking free; she then returned to campus. NYPD has been notified of this incident and will take appropriate action.
When traveling during late hours please remember that the Barnard shuttle service is available from 9:00pm-4:00am by calling 212-854-3362. In addition, the Columbia University shuttle service is also available on a regular schedule, and after 10:00pm mobile service is available by calling 854-SAFE between 11:00pm and 2:00am.
One of the most important things we can all do to ensure our own personal safety is to be aware of our surroundings. When possible travel with friends during late night hours, avoid being distracted by headphones or cell phones while walking, and be aware of “Safe Haven” locations should you encounter a suspicious person.
“Be aware and be safe.”

@Anonymous yea, I have used Columbia shuttle at 4 Am too
@Anonymous i dont believe that the columbia shuttle follows any kind of normal schedule.
@person Columbia University Shuttle: 11PM-2AM
Barnard: 9PM-4AM
If you’re a Columbia student and you get raped between 2AM and 4AM because there isn’t any shuttle anymore, well, you should have gone to Barnard.
@Anonymous Awesome. Too bad she didn’t take the fucker’s wallet too. Good job, Barnard.
@Anonymous There’s also the Rape Crisis Anti-Violence Support Center, which is open from 8 – 11 pm in 112 Hewitt for walk-in counseling and by phone at 212 854 HELP. They also offer an advocate for information about/accompaniment to the hospital, Health Services, the police, the district attorney, the Disciplinary Procedure for Sexual Assault through the university, etc. The advocate is available 24 hours a day at that same number – 212 845 HELP.
We’re here to talk about anything regarding sexual violence.
@LOL Pwned.
@Anonymous for the love of god at least pretend to be a decent human being.
@anon I think he’s giving the girl kudos for kicking the guy in the groin, not the other way around.
@Anonymous I was.
@Anonymous In that case, I’m sorry for snapping at you.
