Grab your black eyeliner and break out the lace. Tomorrow night WBAR presents Goth Prom 1986, a free concert featuring an intoxicating brew of hardcore, garage-rock, and beats by Balam Acab, Purling Hiss, Leather, and RL Grime in the Diana Event Oval from 7 to 11:30 pm. The event is open to the public, so feel free to bring your NYU hipster bros and introduce them to the dark side of fashion. Goth attire is not required but highly encouraged.
Taste a preview of the darkness:
WBAR Barnard College Radio is pleased to announce GOTH PROM 1986, our 2nd annual Winter Formal featuring: the electro/experimental/hip-hop stylings of New York based beatsmith RL Grime; Leather, a leading hardcore band on the Philadelphia punk scene who’ve released two eruptive EPs on Fan Death and Jade Tree this past year; Purling Hiss, psychedelic garage-rockers hailing from Philadelphia who’ve put out a slew of hissing slammers on indie stalwarts Mexican Summer and Woodsist; and headliner Balam Acab, the genre-defying ambient project of 20-year-old Alex Koone, who released his acclaimed debut album “Wander/Wonder” on Tri Angle earlier this year.
We’re very excited about this FREE, ALL AGES show happening Saturday, December 3rd in the Diana Event Oval, a unique performance space on Barnard’s campus (right off the 116th stop on the 1 train). Goth/formal dress is strongly encouraged, corsages and boutonnieres will be made available to all guests, and a goth prom king and queen will be named. Don’t forget to bring a date.
