Announcements from Barnard and Columbia Public Safety confirm that yesterday at 2:10 pm, two students were robbed at gunpoint by an unknown male in Morningside Park. In broad daylight, people, midafternoon, almost tea time. Morningside Park may look like a pretty park full of adorable cats, but apparently it’s also a hotbed of crime. No longer safe in pairs, all students must now travel in posses of four or more. These are dark times… and by dark we mean totally frickin’ visible.
Public Safety requests that any information as to the identity of the robber be relayed to the 26 Pct Detective Squad at (212) 678-1351.

@how is it news that morningside park isn’t safe. i thought bwog was a news site
@You're welcome Political correctness is a dangerous notion. We can’t fix the problems we have if we can’t name them.
@You're welcome Public safety, I’ll help you out
In all likelihood:
Male
black
5-10
Medium build
Evidence: every single safety alert we’ve received in the past few years.
Steps to ensure safety:
1. Remove the homeless from the area. They need to psychiatric treatment- or arrest them for harassment and/ or loitering.
2. Get the projects out of here. A high rise with over a thousand no- income individuals is not a healthy environment. Send them out to the suburbs – spread them out.
On this matter, those who think with their feelings in place of reason have clearly never been robbed.
@Anonymous Aw crap guys, the New York Post was right, now that we’ve gone and elected deBlasio it’s back to the Bad Old Days =(
Seriously, though, I’m glad muggings like this are rare enough to be considered newsworthy. Stay safe out there and always be aware of your surroundings
@Jaded Graduate Student Wish we could get more information like a description of the assailant. This may sound somewhat draconian, but I say this as a lifelong NYer: Trust non one. Always look over your shoulder and be on the lookout for shady people, especially in public places like on the street or in parks. And don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself in an assertive, but non-violent fashion.
On an unrelated note, does Columbia offer Rape Aggression Defense or RAD courses? My undergrad offered that as a PE credit. Just curious.
@Anonymous The NYPD must significantly increase their presence in and around this park.
@anon Damn Highway Robbers are out again, i thought this was the 21st century not the 15th
